Where you take over. Many thanks to Rebecca for this wonderful post. The vibe is just great. Anyone can send in anything! (to peterabrahams@gmail.com) It should contain at least one picture plus blurb, caption, description, thought, etc. And now to Rebecca’s entry.
Our first dog was a Wire Haired Fox Terrier named Smoky Mountain Taffy. She was so smart! David and I were newlyweds, stationed at Ft. Sill, OK, when she adopted us. She is 3 months old in this photo, and looks remarkably like Jilly, our current Russell Terrier. (This was in 1973. Notice the stylish harvest gold shag carpet and starter book shelves.)
This was in 1976, Bicentenial year, when we were stationed in Germany. We bred Taffy to a German champion, Sacha von Gemundia, which resulted in 7 puppies. They are one day old in this shot.
We had a friend whose hobby was photography and the next 2 shots are his work.
This picture is from 1986, when we were stationed in Hawaii, ready to attend the Field Artillery ball.
We were in Hawaii when Magnum, P.I. was being filmed. We all knew the filming locations and loved when the cast and crew would be on the North Shore at a guarded Army camp, as we could get in with our military car stickers. I sent this photo out with our Christmas cards that year, signing them ‘Merry Christmas from Rebecca, Tom, and Taffy! Oh yeah, David says hi, too!’ (David is a great sport!)
Taffy lived to be 16 years old. She also lived with us at West Point, NY, Ft. Campbell, KY, and a second tour of Germany. (She was a well-travelled little girl!) We would take her to the Gasthaus (dogs are welcome in restaurants, but children are not!), give her commands in German, and she would obey (really looking at our hand signals). The Germans would reward her ability to ‘understand’ their language with sausages! Thanks for strolling with me down memory lane. Taffy was a true treasure of a dog. I can’t wait to see her again someday, over the rainbow bridge
