Parking Note (Is there a more tedious topic?)

A note on parking today from Gibson’s Books: “On-street parking can be scarce: Gibson’s strongly suggests using the Capital Commons parking garage at 75 Storrs Street, which is one street east (or downhill) from South Main Street and Gibson’s Bookstore. The 2nd floor of the parking garage stairwell and elevator exits directly onto South Main Street, one and a half blocks away from Gibson’s (heading left, away from the lighted 4-way intersection).”

  1. A block and a half uphill? Well, at least it’s not a 10 miles in the snow uphill both ways.

It is National Bacon Lovers day (hard pass) and National Chocolate Pecan Pie day.

For me, it is Recycling day where I take the bags of cans to the recycler in return for a modest pittance of cash and pick up my order at Home Depot day. This is exciting as I am picking up six bags of Miraclegro to top off bed #2. This means I can get it planted for any late summer crops, should our heat to through Halloween, and I can also have two, count them, two beds to plant for winter crops. Then this winter can work on building and filling the last two raise beds. Once they are four going I can not only plant summer and winter but also rotate.

Last night I had two peaches for dinner that I picked from my own tree. They were delicious. I’ve eaten six so far. I think there are about six to go if I can find them amongst the foliage.

Weeding keeps me busy until late winter/early spring when I can prune the Sweet Bay Laurel way back. I now own a chainsaw.

We know what is keeping OFA busy this summer. What is everyone else doing?

  2. I certainly would love to attend one of OFA’s book signings. *Sigh!*.
ML, You asked what the rest of us are doing this summer. We got a brochure of a trip sponsored by the University of Tennessee Alumni Assn. that piqued my interest, so I started investigating. Small sailing ship from Oporto, La Coruna (Santiago, El Camino, Bilbao museum), Mont St. Michel, Normandy beaches (guided by Dwight Eisenhower II, Ike’s grandson), & London. Finally gave up the idea. Flights from Boise to Lisbon are just too long, and if traveling business, exorbitantly expensive. I think all we can manage anymore would be fairly close. Otherwise, trying to stay cool and away from smoke!

    1. Yes, long flights but you could have a stop over breaking it up. Or simply splurge on the upgrade. Expensive yes. But I have decided if I ever travel to Europe again it will be business class. The tour sounds really wonderful. You never know when an opportunity like that will come again.

In 2012 I did a tour with the Steiff Club for their 25th anniversary. Aside from being in Giengen for the Steiff Festival for a few days we did some fun things before and after. I’m glad I did it as they have never offered such a tour again. we got to see the factory where they make the “fur” fabric for the bears among other things. Some behind the scenes and preview opportunities not available to the public. I don’t regret it. I didn’t fly business but I did pay for an upgrade.

    1. I do and I finally turned it on today, the first time this year. It was 90, breaking a record of 89 set in 1897. Tomorrow promises only to reach a high of 84 and 79 on Thursday. 78 Saturday and Sunday before it starts to rise again.

But the corn seems to really like it.

      I don’t.

I opted not to go to the recycling center or Home Depot. It is just too hot to get in a hot car and go places covered in asphalt and concrete.

So I stayed in my bedroom and turned on the AC.

After I feed the dogs I’ll go out front to move the hose to the planter to water and bring in the mail. I think UPS lost another package. They said it was delivered but no one was on the security cameras. This will be the second time this month they lost a package. This time delivering it to someone else.
