Turkey painting by Claude Monet, who probably never celebrated Thanksgiving, being French and all. There’s also a story about Monet and the rich couple who owned it and an affair between Claude and the chatelaine, hitting many French notes.
What a lovely painting. I have never seen it before.
Being French and all, I am not surprised Monet had an affair with the mistress of the house. :^)
Today is the late Charles Schulz’s birthday. “Peanuts” was one of my favorite cartoons from childhood. I still love watching “A Charlie Brown Christmas” and “The Great Pumpkin.”
I love those two, plus How the Grinch Stole Christmas. That might be my favorite with the fine hand of Chuck Jones and the beautiful voice of Thurl Ravenscroft who is uncredited. Schulz and Jones were devastated to realize that omission and the Emmy speech mentioned him profusely.
There is also a Charlie Brown Thanksgiving, not as well known but all of the gang are there.
That is a really lovely painting of turkeys. Had no idea Monet did such a painting since he did so many waterlily ones.
Seems it is rare in that it is the only painting Monet did of birds.
The human connections behind it are pretty interesting too.
It is in the Museé de Orsay. Les Dindons. Makes them sound more fun that “turkeys”. I wonder if our Thursday meals will be descended from these as they are white, not the colors of our heritage birds.

“How the Grinch Stole Christmas” is a favorite of mine too, as is “Rudolph The Red Nosed Reindeer.”
