Fisticuffs?

The day after Christmas is called Boxing Day in the UK, Canada, and some other countries. But why? Is it about the Boxer Rebellion? Or because after too much proximity, families end up in fisticuffs? Or because the house is full of empty boxes?
Anybody?

  1. LOL. Yeah, I always think of Frasier and Ali when I hear “Boxing day”. I’ve heard several explanations for the name. One was that the landed gentry would bring the Christmas day leftovers down to the villages for the poor in boxes the day after Christmas. It may also be related to donating to the church Alms box. At some point it was associated with giving gratuities in boxes to tradespeople or other workers for services rendered from the previous year.

Boxing day has been associated with leftovers so since I have no servants to tip I will be having some of my leftover turkey today along with the leftover stuffing and cranberry sauce. Yum.

It’s National Candy Cane day. I usually pass as I do not like peppermint. Occasionally I will find a candy cane that is fruit flavored and I’m find with that.

It is also National Homeowner’s day. Since I already own a home I will be getting back to repairing mine.
