Etta

Following up on reader favorite passages in the Chet and Bernie series (see previous posts on nightfall in The Sound and the Furry) here’s an Amazon reviewer on A Farewell to Arfs, the brand new C&B. I won’t quote the whole thing, but the passage singled out is spoken by Etta, a new character in the series:

‘Plus — as usual — the author hits us with surprising insights into the human condition, like this one, concerning marital infidelity:

“The wife always knows. Completely different if it’s the husband getting cheated on. They never know. At the same time, when they’re not geting cheated on they can get very suspicious. That’s why the cuckold is comedy, and the betrayed wife is tragedy.”‘

  1. Interesting quote. And likely very true. I am a childless dog lady by choice. Made the decision to stay single in my 30s. Too many blind date disasters.

And where is RiĆ³? It is National Beer Lovers Day. Personally, I can’t stand the stuff. Too bitter. I took a taste and apparently I am very sensitive to the taste of “bitter” which may account for some of the other foods I don’t like.

It is also International Bacon day. Smoke ’em if you got ’em.

It is National Salami day and National Acorn Squash day.

It is National Hummingbird day and Turkey Vulture day (“When the buzzards return…to Hinckley ridge. Ohhhh.” But not today, that’s March 15)

For OFA, on top of the previous Book Lover’s day, today is Buy a Book day. I think we all know what book would be preferred to be purchased.

That is my most favorite dog-cloud of OFA’s collection.

Yeah, I’m preempting your requests and Google searches. (It’s Google Commemoration day)

When the buzzards return to Hinckley Ridge, oh
Every heart is young and gay
    With wings out spread
    They circle overhead
Telling us spring is on its way…
    In Ohio

While we await, our harbingers, oh
In the shelter of the bridge
    Mother Nature sends the word
She is giving us the bird
When the buzzards return to Hinckley Ridge

And yes, it was Ruth Buzzi.
