Beginnings

Sunday? Beginnings! Here’s the beginning of A Farewell to Arfs, the brand new Chet and Bernie novel:

Who wouldn’t love my job?

(I’ll be discussing it with the wonderful Barbara Peters tomorrow at 7 PM local time at The Poisoned Pen in Scottsdale AZ. I believe it will be streamed at this link:)

  1. Streaming? I CAN DO THAT! And as advertised, tomorrow is National Dog Day. Now to figure out if Arizona is at 6pm or 7pm because they don’t do Daylight Savings time and I don’t know which way it goes. Am I saving time now or is that in the winter. I loathe the switch back and forth with a passion. If I were Supreme Dictator of the Universe for Life the first thing I would do is get rid of it. Pick and time and stick to it, I say. None of this going back and forth. You’re not saving anything. It’s the same amount of sunlight, of which there is more in the summer than the winter because the days are longer, that’s the way the Earth works.

Meanwhile. The weather is a bit warmer today but tolerable. But FedEx, in their infinite stupidity is delivering today, SUNDAY, instead of tomorrow when they were supposed to. So the gate is unlocked and the dogs and I are sequestered in the back yard until they do. I’ve got the map open. The truck isn’t anywhere near us and hasn’t moved. Is it going to get here in 9 min? I doubt it. Delivery between 10:15 and 12:15. That is not going to happen.

Yeah, I loathe FedEx too. Sometimes they keep moving the time back until the entire day is wasted and then finally say, oops, not today. Tomorrow.

Today is National Banana split day. I have no bananas and no vanilla ice cream. I ate it all. All I have is rainbow sherbet. I have cream I can whip, I have hot fudge sauce, maraschino cherries and chopped nuts. But no bananas and no vanilla ice cream. It is a day of disappointments.

It is also Whiskey Sour day. Hard pass on that too. If I’m going to drink hard liquor I prefer bourbon, although I would rather cook with it than drink it straight. Once year I made spiced apricot bourbon jam and it was awesome. If my apricot tree ever starts bearing fruit, and more than I can eat I will make it again. Although I can eat quite a few fresh apricots right off the tree. That recipe would probably work with peaches too.

The Blue Chair Jam Cookbook everyone. The bible for making preserves.
