The other day, commenting about the beginning of The Fan, Jim Thomsen – who knows a lot about crime fiction! – said:
“Great craft lesson there: don’t hover over the reader with narrative intrusion where it’s neither necessary or helpful. Just let a story reveal itself and trust the reader to dial in.”
Bingo. That got me thinking I should post the beginning of A Farewell to Arfs, the next Chet and Bernie novel (coming Aug. 6 and now available for pre-order). Or is it too soon?
