Beginnings

On Sunday we do beginnings – all the Peter Abrahams novels, including those written under the Spencer Quinn moniker™. Since I can see distant snowy peaks from where I am now, how about a book where snow plays a big role? (I love writing snow scenes!) So, A Perfect Crime, which starts like this:

Thursday, the best day of the week – the day of all days that Francie was predisposed to say yes. But here in the artist’s studio, with its view of the Dorchester gas tank superimposed on the harbor beyond, she couldn’t bring herself to do it. The problem was she hated the paintings.

  1. OOo, I’m always up for a crime anything. Novel, movie, TV show. I went through all of the Ellery queen paperbacks my best friend’s Dad had in his private library in Junior High. Learned all sorts of “English” like torch and boot.

It seems the universe is adverse to perfect crimes, no matter how well-planned. That is not to say that every crime results in punishment. Too often, it seem to me, crimes go unpunished. I think we like crime novels because there is punishment for the perpetrator in the end. That gives us the satisfaction that real life does not.
