Einstein came up in the FB comments yesterday. He’s mentioned a few times in the Chet and Bernie mystery series, but the only one I can think of offhand is in Cat on a Hot Tin Woof, which I just finished. I don’t think it’s even preorderable yet meaning this is in no way a promotional post – although you could humor me by preordering Mrs. Plansky Goes Rogue.
āIām willing to bet your sniffing distance is off the charts,ā Bernie said.
What a stunner! The sheer brilliance of the man! You hear mention of a dude named Einstein, possibly a perp, and if so I hope he looks good in orange, but not the point, which is he was no Bernie. My sniffing distance off the charts? In your swing zone, Senor Einstein? Hello?

And there’s those baseball references too, Bernie being a baseball man, although I imagine he is okay with other ball sports like the basketball Chet managed to deflate or the funny one shaped sorta like a big olive but not really.
I hope someone has stepped up for Phriday Photos. I’ve been a little busy, expanding the orchard. I bought a Mexican “Key” lime tree yesterday. That completes the orchard for now. The bee sisters visit the blooming lemon and orange trees daily and the new Satsuma mandarin looks like it is going to have blooms soon. I counted 7 buds yesterday. That is a year earlier than I expected. The new lime tree also has some buds coming. The apricot has some little apricots forming and the peach tree is loaded with blossoms that will eventually be peaches. Even the newly planted strawberries have a few flowers. I planted them correctly this time so they are thriving rather than dying.
And I just bought a CostCo membership. I’ll try it for a year and see if it saves me money even though I am only one person so shopping in bulk may not save me if I end up having to discard spoiled things. The dog treats alone will pay for the membership. Save $20 each on bully sticks compared to Amazon and $10 on chicken strips compared the same. Those are their to favorite treats. They don’t get them often because of the cost but now, they’ll be able to get them sooner. My treat? Cheese. I just bought a wedge each of Parmesan and Romano and will be grating it and freezing it. Now I can put as much cheese as I want on pasta and finally try that recipe for Cacio e Pepe. I need to go back to see if they have aged Provolone. I love that with a freshly baked baguette.
I visited a Parmesan Reggiano DOP factory in Bologna when I went to Italy in 2016. It was fascinating. And delicious. Also a balsamic vinegar farm and where they make prosciutto.
Greetings!
I am laughing at this excerpt. Looking forward to reading “Cat.”
Good afternoon to all!
