Hoops ‘n Us

Well, that was quite the basketball game last night! Basketball comes up now and then in the Chet and Bernie series. (Narrated by a dog but NOT a talking one.) Here, from Dog On It, the first mention:

Now Keefer, face and body, was deflating, like a basketball I’d once got hold of after it came bouncing out of a schoolyard.

  1. Being able to deflate a basketball is quite the feat. Not sure Diana could do it and she is a 88 pounder. She is currently enamored of a Giggle ball she buried that I unearthed, cleaned off and no longer giggles. But she still carries it around. It presents quite the challenge as it is larger than her mouth and hard so difficult to grip. She has to maneuver it so her jaws can get in the little speaker holes the giggle used to escape from. I think she prefers it without the giggle.

Is Spring springing where everyone is? My peach tree is in full bloom and beautiful as are the lemon and orange trees. I’ve got roses too. The seedlings are popping their heads up and I’ll have radishes soon with peas coming up behind. Maybe a few strawberries as there are a few flowers on the newly planted plants. The fence is on hold as Mother Nature waits for no man, let alone me, so the plants must take priority for now.

  2. Greetings!

    I’d hate to see that basketball… :^)

First sign of spring in the complex that I live in are the forsythia. I hope they don’t freeze as it will be below 30 tonight in this neck of the woods. Brrrr…

    Good evening to all!

  3. Weather here in Chevy Chase is about the same as for Wose. We’ve gone from multiple days above 80 last week to a low this night of 29. We even had a fire in the fireplace tonight. Rare for April.

Really worried about our lilacs as they have hit an early full bloom but hopefully they will survive. It should get up to 50 tomorrow and lows would be well above freezing, so tonight should be the worst of it. The spinach we bought in containers is safe in the garage; glad I didn’t get around to planting it this weekend.

But one member of the family thinks this is just fine. In his mind he thinks that summer came and went last week and that we are heading into fall now. I guess he has a surprise or two coming his way.

    1. My Mother loves lilacs, which simply don’t grow here. She loves all of the Easter flora and fauna we don’t have here; daffodils, tulips, lilies of the valley, holly with berries, heather, Cardinals. We have some versions of a few of them but pale, drab comparisons to the bright colors of the East.

She really loves white lilacs. She said she had a perfume that was white lilac and that they smell different than the regular purple ones. Off and on I’ve searched for a perfume of white lilacs for her but never found it.

I send her a bouquet each month and try to include some of the flowers she oves. This month she’ll be getting an Easter arrangement with daffodils. Next month her Mother’s Day bouquet will have tulips,.

I’m glad Teddy is enjoying the weather. But I imagine Teddy is very agreeable with whatever it holds and the changeability is just an added bonus. He loves life whether it is the snow or swimming and hiking in the summer. Every day is a new adventure.

  4. Poor Keefer!
If I comment on our beautiful weather, beautiful spring flowers, and glorious birdsong, will I jinx it? I’m knocking on wood!
