Snickers (More)

Many thanks to Jen Birch, human companion of Snickers, Chet’s Dec. Friend of the Month, for this info: “Snickers is a three and a half year old Saddlebred. Currently growing and shaped like a tube, he aspires to be a 1000-plus pounder. He likes nibbling and biting and he is an unapologetic prima donna.” (like all of his kind, as readers of the Chet and Bernie series know)

  1. Sounds like he would fit right into a C&B adventure.

It is National Green Bean Cassarole day. Hard pass. I’ll take my green beans plain, thankyouverymuch.

It is also National Rhubarb Vodka day. I just recently discovered this was a thing. I was watching season nine, episode three of Escape to the Chateau and they grew their own rhubarb and Dick made a drink with rhubarb, cardamom pods and sugar and vodka and then let it sit in their preserves storage for a few weeks and then they had some. I am a fan of cardamom (and nutmeg) so this piqued my attention. I don’t grow my own rhubarb and likely never will, but it looked easy and sounded interesting. Should I see some rhubarb in the store, I might buy some and give it a try as I have cardamom seeds and jars for the purpose and plenty of Vodka that I only use for cooking.

It is also National Make a Gift day and I am commencing my baking season today with making candied orange and lemon peel and marzipan for the Stollen I hope to make on Thursday. Both ingredients will be going in other seasonal treats as well. I have a long list of baked goods I will be making to give to my parents this year as they don’t want “stuff” any more and their days mostly revolve around meals and the tv. I’m making a lot so if there are any failures, they’ll never notice the absence.

I think National Today day is a little off as they also list today as Faux Fur Friday, First Sunday in Advent and it is neither Friday nor Sunday.

  2. With a name like ‘Snickers’ (which I love!), you must have a wonderful sense of humor! Sending apples and carrots via your Mom, Jen.
