RIP Fernando Valenzuela

Odd that he would die so soon after Luis Tiant, another great pitcher who looked skyward at one point in his delivery. That screwball off his! How did his arm not fall off? If there’s an afterlife he’s probably pretty happy today after last night’s game. Anyone have a favorite World Collection memory? Been to a World Collection game?

  1. LOL. It still won’t post the word “s-e-r-i-e-s”.

I only got 7 hour of sleep last night but I hit all of my benchmarks so I feel pretty rested.

It’s National Pumpkin day. I grew none this year. I got vines in bed #1 in plenty of time but I just had vines, no flowers and no fruit. I did put another in bed #2 and it has some now but it’s way to late for them to do anything. Same with the watermelons. None in bed #1 but I’ve got one big one and a small one coming in bed #2. If the weather stays in the 70s long enough I’ll get something. Might not be as tasty as it could have been but at least I’ll get something. The cantaloupe is a lost cause but I’m letting it go. There are a few beans on the bushes but probably not even for a meal. The most success this year as been the tomatoes and basil.

For the nation within, it is National Pitbull Awareness day and Muddy Dog day. Of course to have Muddy Dog day you need mud which requires rain or water. Neither of my girls is enamored of either which is not to say they haven’t been muddy. It’s just usually restricted to their feet, because without opposable thumbs, who can put on rain boots?

It is also National Chicken Fried Steak day. Can’t say I’ve ever had it. I like my steak naked. If anything is going to be chicken fried I want it to be chicken. However, I do love Wienerschitzel.

  2. Wait. No material for Phriday Photos? I missed that yesterday.

I am going to do write ups on Goliath and Ramses and then maybe even Cuppy and Mitzi. Then there will be at least three in the queue for the future. Then I’ll start on the current canines, Diana and Freyja. Then my parent’s dogs past and present: Candy and Dolly. That should give EVERYONE ELSE plenty of time to find some photos and get their write-ups done and handed in.

There will be no extra credit available for late work.

At this rate, Wose’s calendar creation may be nothing but my dogs and Teddy, Jilly and Dottie.

  3. Wose!! Another beautiful calendar! You don’t know how much we all appreciate your very hard and creative work on these. I know Mom has saved them all.
    Thank you!

  4. Wose. The calendar is spectacular; ours arrived today as well.

As to World S-e-r-i-e-s memories, most of mine are from when I was fairly young. I remember Bill Mazeroski’s home run for the Pirates in 1961; Koufax and Drysdale sweeping the Yankees for the Dodgers a few years later in four games; then turn around fair play when the Orioles with Jim Palmer swept the Dodgers in 4 games a couple of years later; and finally Reggie Jackson’s (aka Mr October) three home run game I think in 1977 if memory serves me correct. After that, it is all a blur.
