Fairbanks

In answer to several questions: Yes, the new Mrs. Plansky novel comes out in 2025 – July 15 (pre-orderable). Not a Chet and Bernie novel although a four-legged character does play an important role. Goes by the name of Fairbanks. Quite different from Chet. Not a mammal, for one thing.

  1. For Rebecca/Reba from yesterday. Where we are is in Woodstock, VT, which is in the central part of the state. Mt. Tom overlooks Woodstock and is part of a national historical site (including also a Rockefeller estate) administered by the National Park Service. There is a small man-made lake on the top, named The Pogue.

  2. My guess is that Fairbanks is that alligator on the cover. I’m not the first or only one to surmise this.

Chet is not a fan of alligators but very proud of his alligator skin collar.

OFA author must have a thing about alligators. They appear in the Bowser and Birdie series too.

Today is Global Cat day and National Feral Cat day. I’m sure a few here are celebrating.

It is also National Veteran’s BBQ day. Too bad we can’t invite Bernie to a cookout and a beer. And Chet too of course. And then drop a little something on the ground, oops.

  3. I appreciate everyone’s posts!
WTAFP, I looked back at the book and the setting is in Northern Michigan, so Tom Lake is probably fictional.
ML, you are correct, Ma’am. Jilly loved snuggling with us on the sofa bed. She’s been a cuddle monster ever since. Our bed is very high and she can’t jump up. I would hate for her to try to jump down! We will play it by ear. Also, the Recovery Suit is wonderful, and she can even do her business with it on, but cannot lick her incision. I was at Walmart today and picked up a baby onesie so I can wash the suit. I cut a hole for her tail. It works well, too, but I have to unsnap & fold it under when she goes outside.
Yes, Chet would not like Fairbanks! But he does wear his gator collar proudly, for dress.

    1. If she won’t use little doggy stairs or a ramp, look into a platform called a Klimb. It’s used for training but I have it set up with legs so that Diana and Freyja can step up on the Klimb and then easily get on the bed. Both are capable of jumping on and off but Ramses had back problems in his old age and I think it was from a decade of jumping off the bed so I got the Klimb. Set it up at the foot or somewhere that isn’t too inconvenient for you and see if she can get up on it and then on the bed. I’ll bet with a few treats she will figure it out quickly.

It’s cheaper direct from Blue-9 pet products than from Amazon but not sure about shipping. Might be a wash. It isn’t cheap but it is high quality and most of all it is big enough for them to get on it and get off it. I think the ramps and stairs that a designed for accessibility are too narrow or small.

  4. Actually, I think the alligator one is for everyday and black leather one is his dress color. Price of alligator hide makes that a little backwards, but perhaps the gator hide is, in fact, his old friend Ike.
