2 Ettas

More on Etta Place – whose name was in the back of my mind, way back – when I came up with the name Etta Kohn for a new character in the Chet and Bernie series who first appears in A Farewell to Arfs, newly on the shelves. My Etta is the retired crime beat writer who keeps a dossier called AZ Desperadoes A to Z. History’s Etta was pals with the Sundance Kid and Butch Cassidy who had lots of adventures and disappeared during or after the Argentina trip. Many thanks to reader Brenda Flash for sending the photo of Etta and Sundance taken in Buffalo NY in 1901, and to my friend Bob for the photo of the trio in Argentina, 1904.

  1. Interesting life and shrouded in mystery. Apparently the only thing agreed upon is that Etta Place was very unlikely to be her real name.

The weather has broken. It is a lovely, cool 72 and the high today may be around 78, briefly and then drop. I will be in a cooler part of town for my watercolor class so it will be a pleasant day. It’s going to be mid-70s for the next 10 day with even a few days dropping into the low 70s.

I harvested corn and tomatoes yesterday. The dogs each stole an ear of corn from my pile before I caught then and had to carry the rest in my arms. I need to get a basket for harvesting. I also picked about half a dozen tomatoes. The bush is loaded and they were green for the longest time. Now they are all turning so I’ll likely be harvesting a few every day. I have some that got knocked off early ripening in a paper bag. I ate four last night for dinner.

It is National Hot Cross Bun day. Not really my thing. It is Libraries Remember day continuing with the theme of the month which seems be involve books, authors, reading, literacy and libraries.

It is also Patriot Day, when we remember 9-11-2001.
